Shelly`s Back Room in Washington DC

A cozy and well decorated cigar bar/lounge but, a rowdy and inconsiderate clientele. If you are looking for a higher end, relatively quaint cigar lounge to enjoy a good smoke and conversation with a good friend or colleague, we’ll, this is not the place. If you want to smoke among obnoxious sports fans then this is a place for you.

Good service. Excellent selection of cigars and premium spirits. Surprisingly good food too.

The staff is always attentive without being overbearing. The food is good and comes out surprisingly quick. Always nice to meet up with fellow cigar buds here.

The waitresses are hit or miss, the food is pretty good (in a city full of exceptional food). Most go for the friendly environment. There are plenty of regulars with their boxes and humidors, but also plenty of randoms. Good place though.

Great environment, super friendly, went here to meet up with some buddies from out of town and it'll definitely be a night to remember!

Definitely a cool place to relax and have a flight! The ambiance is so relax and nice. People are definitely smoking their cigars so be ready to smell like cigars when you leave. Service was fast but not as attentive as one would like.

Great cigars, great service. The sausages were really good, but the lobster bisque and crab cakes were just so-so. Love that there is food, though!

Favorite cigar bar in the city. AND best wings I have had in DC. Must go. If you are lucky, you will get a huge leather chair to enjoy the experience in!!!

We stopped into Shelly's on a Saturday afternoon. My husband loves cigars and scotch and this was a great reprieve after a day of sight-seeing. Clean, well ventilated, and the perfect cigar lounge ambiance you'd hope for. Fantastic selection of scotch and they carried quiet a variety of cigars which included the entire list of Cigar Afficianado 2018 top 25 selections. The menu and the tables state that there is a $20 minimum per seat. This didn't seem to be striclty enforced while we were there. That being said, a glass of scotch and a nice cigar will get you there. Highly recommend for any cigar lover.

A great place to have a cigar and conversation with friends. Or to sit in one of the comfortable chairs and have a smoke and a whiskey by yourself.

If you like cigars, great bar food and a mixed crowd: make it a point to stop here! You can smoke, eat, drink and talk on the inside and the outside. Mix of traditional and flavored cigars of all sizes. . .quick smoke or a long smoke. Enjoyed iced cold beers, campfire wings and Shelly's Sausages along with some fine smokes. All were delicious. Next time something stronger than beer and trying a burger or entree. Great energy in this bar and attentive servers.

Prices are fair. 5 drinks, 3 apps, and 2 cigars $109. Not a weekly event, at least for us, but it was worth it. Fries with cheese were good, but nothing special. Great wings given they're baked and not fried. Would order them every time. Wife said the meatballs were fantastic. Wait staff was very welcoming. Felt comfortable even tho it wasn't our typical scene.

Absolutely one of my favorite spots to visit anywhere in America. The outstanding bar food, excellent cocktails and top notch offers of cigars. The service is always 5 star plus on every visit.

Service is good. Food is really good but a little overpriced. The atmosphere is descent but it would not be my first choice of a cigar bar in the District.

An excellent selection of bourbon, scotches, whiskeys and cigars. An excellent cocktail menu as well with food that is delicious and phenomenally unhealthy. One of the few places in D.C. that you can smoke a cigar indoors without being subject to the heat an humidity that plagues the mid Atlantic. Highly recomend for the whiskey and cigar connoisseur alike.

Wow! This place is awesome. Outstanding customer service! My server was extremely polite, professional, and helpful. Great selection of cigars and drinks. The food was incredible too. Great vibe and clientele as well. I can’t wait to come back next time I’m in DC. Thanks!

This is an EXCELLENT place to relax and enjoy a good cigar. The cigars are a little pricey, but it's DC. The wings are in my top 3 of all time, they were fresh, hot and full of flavor. My waitress Chai was attentive and very friendly. The filter system is one of the best so you don't leave smelling like smoke. Also a great selection of bourbon, scotch, and rum.

Any time I'm in DC this place is a most visit. The Campfire Wings are some of the best I've ever had. Cigars are priced at a premium but they're delivered to your table and your server cuts and lights it for you.

It is a smoking bar with food options so be advised. If you are into fine cigars with a great selection as well as alcohol to accompany with the cigar this is your place. Their selection and knowledge of cigars is very good. The food is decently priced with good sized portions. Be advised that the "Drunken Pasta", while tasty, is very Very spicy! I enjoyed my visit but would have liked to have had the waitress be a little more attentive as when I was ready to leave it took a while in order to get the check. Other than that there is patio seating, and while there is smoking inside it is not too overwhelming. All and all a great place for a fine whiskey an cigar.

One of my favorite places. Bartenders Mike and toney are great and gets your order right. Once they know you, the always remember what you drink. Food not fancy. But really good. Very social atmosphere!

We went for lunch, just small plates. We finished rather quickly - for was fine, pretty standard. Biggest complaint was how long it took to find a server. It took nearly 30 minutes to flag someone down to get us a check. That's how long it has been since somebody walked through our dining room.

Shelly’s is a comfortable, lush oasis of old style cigar culture. Comfortable leather chairs, good drinks and food. Shelly’s provides a sidewalk patio in addition to interior seating. It is pricey, which you expect in DC, but it did seem like there was a bit of English on the ball, juicing the cost. Otherwise, a terrific experience

Had a good time here. Only because of the people we brought with us. Of the 4-5 staff I interacted with, zero of them were what I would consider polite or helpful. I suppose it’s a different attitude in downtown DC. But man, surely you don’t need to act offended if a customer wants something you can’t easily provide with no effort.

I love this place. The smell of cigar smoke in the air is awesome. They have a great cigar menu if you want to indulge. The New York strip steak at $34.00 is the best deal in town. Great pours on the drinks

I work around the corner and this was the only place not packed during happy hour. Few of us sat at the bar and ordered a few drinks. They 110% water down every bottle of liquor behind the bar. Jameson, 1800 Tequila, Jack Daniels, you name it. We ordered our drinks neat and they tasted like water. Not shocked as it’s located in between 3 tourist storefront and they probably want to rip off the out of towners. If you want a real drink avoid at all costs.

Shelly's is a great cigar bar just a short walk from the White House. The service was super friendly. They're very helpful helping a novice like me buy a cigar to my tastes. Nice comfortable couches too. You can rent a humidor if needed. They also serve food but we didn't eat there so I can't rate that. It was very busy when we were there after dinner last nigh. Very enjoyable experience.

Great spot for food, drinks, and cigars! There are not many places where one can enjoy indoor smoking, and even fewer of any quality. One of the best spots in D.C.

Great place if you are looking to sit and relax with food, drink and a cigar.

Sometimes you crave a good cigar and a place to eat and drink at the same time. Outside of Havana, these places are few and far between. Shelly's is a great spot to rub elbows with politicians and DC visitors alike. It's like a choose your own adventure book but with cigars. The staff is attentive and quick, the cigar prices can be reasonable for some sticks, and the food is remarkably good for the price point. Closest thing to Havana but with an air of Thai hospitality.

Great spot! Bartender was huge help in selecting cigars that were right for us and drinks to complement them. We had a great time!

This was a great place to work on a speech. I made comments and notes on my script while puffing away and having some Balvenie. Just what I needed to calm the nerves. The sandwich I had here was also pretty good.My server was on point, bringing me matches or my drink or my cigar at just the right time.

Pretty sure the only reason to go here is to smoke a cigar. Sub-par service on a quiet Saturday.Every surface was in need of a farm good scrub down. Eww.

Shelly's is a go to for my crew of cigar lovers. The food is always good and the drinks are fairly priced. They have a nice selection of cigars but are quite over priced. The staff though is definitely awesome... attentive and fun.

Stumbled upon a true gem!!! They say there's nothing better than a good bourbon and a cigar....well this place delivers on all levels. The ambiance, the staff, selection EVERYTHING was just totally on point!

One of the most fun, crazy and entertaining places in DC... If you like cigars. Besides a nice menu that includes small but delicious steak options, it features a great bar and a great option of cigars of every quality and price, from fancy Davidoff to cheaper Cuban mimics from Central America

Found Shelly’s Back Room on accident. I was in DC for business and was looking for an old school cigar bar, with food and liquor. Well, ai found it in here! Incredible place and I highly recommend it to anyone.

This was my first time ever visiting a cigar lounge. And Shelly's was a great introduction. They have friendly and knowledgeable staff, so in case you need a cigar recommendation, don't hesitate to ask! That way, you can light up and get to enjoying the relaxed but professional atmosphere afforded by their locale. Definitely visiting everytime I'm in Washington D.C. And you should, too!

It is a very inviting atmosphere for kind of person/crowd. If you want to be laid back/casual or classy/dressed up or somewhere in the middle you will fit in and feel comfortable. And the food and drinks were delicious and reasonable priced. I will definitely be going back and making it a regular cigar lounge for me coming from Maryland when I want to get away for a few.
